This is a faithfull reproduction of one of the bosses in the fourteenth bay of Norwich Cathedral. It depicts the Devil thrusting souls into the Jaws of Hell. The Devil is shown with long hair, tail, and cleft feet. His right hand holds what looks like a cord which probaly passes round the waist of the condemmed within the monster’s head. Of the three condemmed, the one nearest the devil clasps his hands as if in despair. The second seems to be peeping out of the Jaws of Hell as if to take a last look at a happier world. The innermost figure, expressing a mixture of panic and resignation, slips further in.
